A warm start to the fall season

The first official day of autumn began this last Sunday morning. Although the seasons are changing, the weather doesn’t seem ready to let go of summer just yet.

A ridge of high pressure will be perfectly centered over the PNW by tomorrow. This is a smaller ridge, so it will move quickly over our area. Even so, it will stay long enough to spike our temperatures well above normal for a day.

We will start this week on the warm side. Highs today will be in the low 80s and upper 70s. Tomorrow will be even hotter, with a number of places hitting 90+ degrees. Lows will be in the 40s and 50s both nights.

By the late afternoon on Wednesday, a low pressure will push into our region along with a cold front. With it, increasing cloud cover and a chance for some rain in the evening overnight into Thursday. This cold front, more than anything else, will bring breezy weather. Expect Wednesday afternoon and evening to be on the windy side, with gusts reaching 30mph+ in some areas.

Cooler, drier air follows the cold front. Thursday, temperatures will drop back into the mid 70s to near normal.

Happy Monday and have a great week!
