Light showers this afternoon and gusty winds
Today, we will cool about 10 degrees from yesterday, to the mid 70s and low 80s. This morning will be clear but clouds will roll in this afternoon ahead of the expected rain. Lows tonight will be in the 30s and 40s.
A low pressure system along with a cold front move into the region today. These systems will bring a chance of rain this afternoon through the night. Rain will be minimal and light. There doesn’t look to be much hope for us to receive anything notable or wetting. Showers will be very spotty, which means that some of us might see some rain on their windshield while others never see a drop. So, grab a jacket with a hood but you might not have to use it.
The bigger picture with these incoming systems will be the gusty winds. Everyone will see 20-30mph gusts this afternoon, possibly stronger in some areas, as the cold front moves through and throws around the air. There’s an active wind advisory north of us. This doesn’t include us, but we will be windy nonetheless. This is a good reminder, if you have any traveling planned this afternoon, to be careful driving.
These winds will pose concern for our fire fighters. The threat isn’t with new fires but rather with fire spread on existing fires that still have hot spots and/or aren’t fully contained. We will be monitoring this closely through the afternoon.
Dry air follows the front, which means we should see sunnier skies tomorrow. Temperatures remain in the mid to upper 70s, a few areas tipping into 80s, for the rest of the week. Â
Have a great Wednesday and be safe this afternoon!
