Sunriver Resort’s Gingerbread Junction raises $5,600 for Habitat for Humanity
SUNRIVER, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Sunriver Resort's annual Gingerbread Junction competition - now in its 29th year - raised $5,600 for Habitat for Humanity La Pine Sunriver.
A check was presented to Kim Gammond, executive director for Habitat for Humanity La Pine Sunriver, on Monday.
"Sunriver Resort's 29th Annual Gingerbread Junction was a heartwarming celebration of creativity and community spirit," said Josh Willis, VP of Operations at Sunriver Resort. "With the support of our talented participants, we were able to raise more than $5,000 for Habitat for Humanity La Pine Sunriver. This contribution will help build homes in our beloved community. We're grateful to everyone who made this year's Gingerbread Junction a sweet success!"
This year's competition had 58 total entries across a variety of categories, including:
- Adult
- Businesses
- Elementary Classroom (K-5)
- Family
- High School
- Individuals
- Preschool
- Middle School
The competition amassed 5,700 votes. Among the winners were:
Adult -- Elizabeth Wilhelm, who spent three weeks building her house, which was inspired by a German village.
Individual (10 and Under) -- Sean Miller, who built a Beetlejuice-inspired house after seeing the movie because he thought it would stand out from the others.
Preschool – Beginnings Bend Preschool
Family – The Kirck-Carrillo family won for their take on the Elf movie.
An adored annual tradition, the Gingerbread Junction event sells “mini lots" for participants to purchase with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity La Pine Sunriver. The event draws participants from the community who relish in the opportunity to create a unique gingerbread structure. The designs are then showcased throughout the holidays.
