Wintry mix today before dry and cool weather takes over

The National Weather Service canceled the Freezing Fog Advisory that was out for parts of Central Oregon, but patchy freezing fog is possible this morning, especially in Jefferson County. Breezier conditions have helped to scour out some of the fog overnight. However, be precautious as you get out on the roads, as you could run into some fog and visibility could drop pretty quickly.

Today, we are expecting a little wintry mix in the high desert. A cold front will pass through this morning, bringing with it some light precipitation. It will begin around mid-morning, between 9-10am, and continue for a couple hours before becoming spotty into the evening.

Only about a tenth of an inch or less is expected across Central Oregon, with the chance for an inch, or less, of snow accumulation in areas like Sunriver and La Pine. The Cascades will see a few inches.

Dry and cool air follow behind the front. Highs today will top out in the 40s but temperatures over the weekend will drop into the 30s for most.

Dry weather takes over next week. Looking ahead in long-range model forecasts, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing much wet weather over the next couple weeks. Long range forecasts are subject to change, but right now, it appears to be a relatively dry January.

Happy Friday! Enjoy your weekend.
