Very warm temperatures and a chance for thunderstorms Wednesday

*LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAY ISSUED FOR WEDNESDAY 5/28

A ridge of high pressure is taking over for the remainder of the week. This pattern will have our high temperatures above normal all week, tipping into the 90s at times. Highs today will be in the upper 70s and low 80s under blue skies.

Tomorrow we heat up even more, into the upper 80s and low 90s. An upper level disturbance will swing through mid week. This, in addition to the heat, will help create an unstable atmosphere. We have the chance to see a few isolated thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has placed us under the “general risk” for storms Wednesday but nothing severe is expected.

Scattered showers will accompany these storms, but there is also a chance for dry lightning. It is early in the season, so the ground is not yet critically dry. However, it will be important to keep an eye out for any new fire starts due to the nature of dry lightning and the heat this week.

Conditions on Wednesday permit issuing a level one Local Alert Weather Day. Keep your eyes and ears turned to the sky in the afternoon.

The ridge flattens Thursday, cooling our temperatures slightly, but quickly rebuilds for the weekend. Saturday will be the hottest day, with potentially record breaking heat in Bend. Make sure you’re staying hydrated and taking breaks when you need to.

Have a great day and enjoy the sunshine!
