Ridgeview softball beats Canby 6-2, securing a spot in the 5A state championship
REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ -- Two Central Oregon teams remain in the post-season, and both of them are headed to the state championship. On Tuesday night, the top-ranked Ridgeview Ravens softball team punched its ticket to the OSAA state title game for the first time since 2019 following a commanding 6-2 win over No. 5 Canby in the 5A semifinals.
The breakthrough came in the third inning. Canby committed two costly errors, giving Ridgeview runners on base. Scott hit a grounder to short, and a wide throw to first allowed two Ravens to score, making it 2-0.
Brezlyn Hagemeister delivered a sharp grounder through the infield, scoring Scott and bringing the home crowd to its feet. Paislee Grant added an RBI with a fielder’s choice, and Ridgeview surged to a 4-0 lead after three innings.
In the fourth, Hagemister kept the pressure on from the circle, striking out batters and taunting the Canby dugout with confidence. The Ravens added more insurance in the bottom of the inning as Scott roped a ball to deep center, scoring Bre Johnston and sliding safely into third for an RBI triple. A misplayed grounder off Hagemeister’s bat extended the lead to 6-0.
Canby tried to rally in the sixth, with Taylor Saucedo driving in a run and another scoring shortly after to make it 6-2. But it was too little, too late.
With two outs in the seventh, Hagemeister fittingly closed out the game with a strikeout. Ridgeview stormed the field as they celebrated the 6-2 victory and their return to the state championship game.
The Ridgeview Ravens will compete for the 5A state title this weekend, seeking to bring a championship back to Central Oregon. They play Saturday at 6:00 P.M. at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene.
