Local Alert Day Tuesday, Hot conditions, isolated storms, high fire danger

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ). Temperatures will return to the mid-90s Tuesday afternoon and the concern for new fire starts grows.  The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning Tuesday.  There is a chance for some isolated storms to develop in the afternoon that will generate gusty winds to go along with the dry lightning. We have issued a Local Alert Weather Day for Tuesday to keep you safe and informed about the fire danger, heat and isolated storms.

The chance for the storms is low, but if a storm develops the outflow winds may fan any flame that has started or is smoldering from last week.  Remember, heat can remain underground in a mulch pile or something similar for days after a lightning storm, and all it needs is a good supply of oxygen to get a flame going.  Bottom line is, we need to be alert for dry lighting and gusty winds Tuesday. We are in the heart of wildfire season, so please, no burning and obey burn restrictions.

The rest of the week will be warm and dry with little relief coming in the form of rain. We may see a few clouds overhead, but not much moisture is available for a while.

Highs Wednesday will be back in the mid-80s under mostly sunny skies. Thursday looks to be a few degrees cooler, reaching the low 80s, which is about normal for the first part of July.

Friday, we start to heat up once again with the mercury reaching the upper 80s late in the day. The 90s return this weekend and are expected to linger around for several days.

Please stay safe and have fun.
