Unhealthy air quality expected to continue into the afternoon
Bend, OR (KTVZ) -
We have issued a Local Alert Weather Day due to the smoke impacts. Yesterday we saw air quality worsen quickly to very unhealthy levels. We are waking up to unhealthy levels again this morning. Air quality might worsen slightly before it gets better.

Winds are becoming more northerly this afternoon, which will help clear some areas along 97 and further west. Areas like Prineville, however, will see air quality dramatically worsen through the day. If winds are favorable enough, we will lift the Alert Day early but we might not get a good enough clearing until tomorrow when winds shift back to a northwest flow.

Winds are a little lighter today, gusting around 15-20mph but temperatures are in the upper 80s and low 90s and conditions are still very dry. Remember to always practice fire safety.
Fire danger will increase tomorrow as winds get breezy again. A Fire Weather Watch is active Thursday for portions of Jefferson County. We’ll likely see this upgraded to a Warning and see Watches released for Friday as well.
Stay indoors, wear a mask, keep windows closed, and stay safe today.
Have a good Wednesday.
