Cooler pattern and rain expected over the weekend
(KTVZ, Bend, Ore). The extreme heat from the past three days is coming to a close. We topped out on Monday with a high of 100, Tuesday with a high of 99, today the low 90s. Look for this cooler pattern to continue into the weekend as we will be dealing with low 80s and upper 70s through Monday.
The cooler pattern does come with some rain as well. We need to get some of the parched earth some moisture, and this weekend will be the answer. Saturday might be a nice, beneficial rain day with soaking rains and maybe an isolated storm. The softer and steady rain will soak into the ground, not run off quickly so this is what we need.
The rain may begin as early as Friday night along the Cascades, so if you are traveling west, bring the rain gear. Highs on Friday will be in the low 80s as clouds move in as the day moves along.
Saturday will be cloudy and rainy. A weak cold front will slide through and be the mechanism for the showers. Most of the models seem to be on the same page with this event, so I am looking forward to a nice, wet Saturday.
Sunday may be a bit more interesting as the rain will be associated with some stormy conditions. The showers linger overnight into Sunday morning and there is a bit more energy in the atmosphere during the afternoon which will allow for some strong storms to develop. Currently it is too far out in the forecast period to be very confident in the strength of the storms, but there are indications that we will hear the rumble of thunder off and on.
Monday will see some showers in the morning and afternoon, but more of a tapering off than a ramping up. This will be the last day of wet weather for a few days.
Overall, the rainy weekend is what we need to suppress the fire danger slightly. The weekend rain will not make much of a dent in the overall drought package, but it will help. We will take what we can get.
Please stay safe.
