FIRE ALERT: 100-Acre Wildfire burned near Culver, and right up against Highway 97

(Update: 0948 Fire infromation and video)

CULVER, Ore. (KTVZ) — At approximately 1:46 AM on Thursday, the NIFC listed the 0948 Fire as inactive, unless conditions change.

The 0948 Fire started around 3:16 PM and burned about 100 acres, just a half mile east of HWY 97.

Remnants of the fire itself seemed controlled and contained.

KTVZ News reached out to Jefferson County Fire & EMS, as well as the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, but we have not yet heard back.

When our crews arrived on scene, the scorched area was empty — no people or fire personnel in sight.

We’ll continue gathering details on the 0948 Fire and bring you updates as we learn more.

We all know how dangerous wildfires are. In fact, our wildfires are so extreme, the Oregon Department of Forestry says, our state isn't limited to 4 seasons. We have a 5th one - Wildfire Season!

As it relates to Prescribed Burns or any sort of planned or controlled fire, yes! They all can be dangerous, as fire always carries risks. While they are carefully planned to minimize harm, controlled fires can pose dangers to burn crews and the public through potential escape, smoke hazards, and post-burn site instability.

In this case, the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), which coordinates with our local fire agencies, listed this incident as the 0948 Fire. With such a large area affected, the smell of smoke was pretty intense.

Fire personnel want to remind us that even though we're moving into the fall, where we're prone to more rain, we're still in wildfire season, so stay alert, stay cautious, and really practice defensible space.

EARLIER REPORTS:

The fire was confirmed to be 100 acres in size as of late Wednesday afternoon. Officials have not yet released information on the fire's containment status or the cause. The fire's location puts it east of Culver, and residents in the area should monitor official alerts for any potential changes in fire behavior.
