Representative Cliff Bentz responds to Day 7 of the Government Shutdown and Federal Troops in Portland

(UPDATE: Added Quotes from Rep. Cliff Bentz)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- We are now on day eight of the Government Shutdown and still no end in sight, as Republicans and Democrats seem to be no closer to a bipartisan resolution.

Earlier today, KTVZ got the opportunity to speak with Oregon Second District Congressman Cliff Bentz on the shutdown.

KTVZ asked Rep Bentz, about how we got here.

"These are all issues we deal with. But this kind of closing things down so you can get your way. It seldom works," Bentz told KTVZ. "It's difficult to get out of and I feel worse for the all the people who are being damaged by this. The military in particular, because when the 15th of this month arrives, they won't get paid."

Many people wont be able to get paid as long as the shutdown continues. We have seen some ramifications of this as now at least three airports have temporarily shut down due to not having enough air traffic controllers. All three airports have subsequently been reopened. Congressman Bentz made clear to me that he would support back pay for all furloughed workers.

While the shut down is going on, Federal Troops in Portland remain a hot button topic. KTVZ asked Congressman Bentz about this.

"Federal troops should should only be deployed in states when when allowed to do so by the law and then to operate within the law," Rep. Bentz said. "So, of course, the President did what he had to do, and that is go get some help for those people to keep them safe."

Thursday morning, the courts will rule on whether to stay the injunction currently in place or change it.

KTVZ will have all of these stories as they develop.
