Dry and mild until Friday, rain and some mountain snow over the weekend

(KTVZ, Bend Ore.) The area is dry and mild for now as the skies are mostly cloud free and the temps will hit the upper 60s and low 70s. The sunrises and sunsets have been spectacular so far this week, and I expect that to continue through at least Thursday.

As the week moves along we will notice more clouds. The increase in cloud cover will be out ahead of the next rainmaker for the area. The chance for showers on Friday is high as a line of light to moderate rain arrives from the west. This will spread out over the entire region, so a rainy Friday is expected.

This will be the beginning of a wet pattern that will consume the weekend. The big question this far out from the event is the type of precipitation.  The mountains are expecting some snow above 5000 feet Saturday and Sunday, but that may be mingled with some rain at times during the day.

The high desert is likely to see a cold rain Saturday, off and on as the rain lingers.  Since the first line of rain brought us much cooler air, we should see a mix of rain and snow along 97 from Lava Butte south. Accumulation on grassy areas is expected, but not much on the highway other than rain.

Sunday will be the coldest day and we may see some measurable snow south of Lava Butte.  The snow will still have a hard time accumulating of the main roads, but grassy areas may see some stick.

The latest information is trending toward a clearing out of the precipitation late Sunday. Monday will be chilly with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s with a mix of clouds and sunshine.
