Holiday spending expected to reach another record this season

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- With Christmas still nearly two months away, retail experts say shoppers are gearing up for another big holiday season — and spending could hit a milestone once again.

The National Retail Federation’s annual consumer survey shows the average American plans to spend almost $900 this season. Of that, more than $600 is expected to go toward gifts for family and friends, while nearly $300 will cover food, decorations, and other holiday needs.

This year’s projected total is the second-highest in the survey’s history, signaling continued confidence among consumers despite cost pressures in many areas.

The NRF also says 55% of shoppers plan to buy online, continuing a steady shift toward e-commerce over in-store purchases.
