SNAP reductions hit Bend families as a local shop steps up to help

BEND, Ore (KTVZ) -- A Bend bagel shop is offering comfort and community during tough times with a “Breakfast for Dinner” event aimed at helping families affected by recent cuts to SNAP food assistance.

Bo’s Bagels will serve all breakfast sandwiches for $5 on Wednesday, November 6, starting at 5:30 p.m. The owners say the goal is simple: bring people together, offer an affordable meal, and create a welcoming space when many are struggling to afford groceries.

On social media, Bo’s owners shared their motivation for the event, criticizing government spending priorities while many families face food insecurity. “All people deserve food,” the post reads, adding that the shop wanted to make a gesture of care for the community. “Most deserve a night out and a meal cooked for them during scary times.”

The event will operate on a one-item-per-person basis to make sure everyone in need has a chance to participate.

Bo’s Bagels is known for its locally made bagels and laid-back atmosphere, and the owners say this effort is about more than food—it’s about offering “a soft spot to land amongst community for an evening” when times are especially challenging.
