Community Conversations: Habitat for Humanity Sunriver–La Pine unveils completed Restore Upcycle Challenge

SUNRIVER–LA PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) — Habitat for Humanity of Sunriver–La Pine is showcasing the finished projects from this year’s Restore Upcycle Challenge, a community-driven initiative that transforms donated items into creative, functional pieces while supporting local housing programs.

Executive Director Kim Gammond explained that the challenge began after customers shared pictures of items they had upcycled from the Habitat ReStore. “We realized combining community involvement with fundraising was a perfect match,” Gammond said.

All proceeds from the Upcycle Challenge go toward Habitat’s critical home repair program and homebuilding efforts, providing safe and healthy housing for families in South County. The critical home repair program covers essential improvements, such as wheelchair ramps, plumbing repairs, and bathroom updates, for income-qualified households.

The completed upcycled items are now on display at the ReStore in La Pine, and an online auction allows community members to bid on the 15 unique pieces. Gammond says the creativity and effort from participants exceeded expectations.
