Dylan on The Ducks: Dan Lanning prepares for JMU, compares the unique matchups to March Madness

History is being made in Eugene as the Oregon Ducks prepare to host their first-ever College Football Playoff game at Autzen Stadium.

This marks the second year of the expanded 12‑team playoff format, which creates new matchups and opportunities for programs across the country including smaller schools like James Madison facing powerhouse programs like the Ducks.

Head Coach Dan Lanning compared the new setup to a different kind of tournament excitement:

“I mean, it's creating some opportunities that, this game would probably never exist, they'll never really be a situation where we play a team like James Madison. So it's unique in the way that it's set up... While these are unique match ups, you know, these are fun, it's fun to be a part of it. It's a little bit more of a march madness feel nowadays than, football. It's changed a little bit.”

The Ducks play James Madison on December 20 at Autzen Stadium. Dylan and I will be there covering fan reaction, pre-game buildup, and postgame interviews with players and coaches.

If you’re heading to the game, reach out to us on social media or through our Stories email. We’d love to feature your fan experience.
