Oregon officials urge caution as winter storms sweep the state

Salem, Ore. (KTVZ) -- State emergency officials are urging Oregonians to use caution as a series of storms brings heavy rain, mountain snow, and strong winds through midweek.

The Oregon Department of Emergency Management said snow will continue to blanket Cascade passes, creating difficult driving conditions. Coastal areas could see wind gusts topping 60 miles per hour, while inland communities face the risk of downed trees and power outages.

Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time, and pack emergency kits in their vehicles. Officials are also warning of hazardous water conditions and urging people to avoid rivers and coastal waters due to high debris and swift currents.

Forecasters expect conditions to improve by Saturday, but until then, officials say the best approach is to stay alert and prepared as winter weather impacts much of the state.
