The last weekend of the year will be mostly clear and cold

A cold flow of air will arrive from the northwest today and tonight. The result will be a much colder pattern to close out the long holiday weekend. The high temperatures today will range from the low 30s to the upper 30s. Coldest locations are Sisters and La Pine. The snow will linger on the mountains overnight and light snow remains Saturday, but the High Desert will be partly to mostly sunny.

This may one of the coldest nights of the season as many locations will dip into the teens and low 20s. Mostly clear skies and light winds will allow any heat that we gain today, and it isn't much, to drift quickly away.

Sunday will see a slight warm up back to near normal temperature readings. Normal for late December is around 40 for highs and the low 20s overnight. A ridge of high pressure will migrate into the Pacific Northwest allowing for mostly sunny skies and a warming trend.

Monday will be sunny and dry with some areas close to the eastern slope of the Cascades becoming breezy. The mercury will rise to the low 40s as a warming trend begins.

The warming trend will be a bit more noticeable on Tuesday as we reach the middle 40s under mostly sunny skies.  This pattern will continue on Wednesday with highs in the upper 40s to near 50.

New Year’s Eve will be clear and chilly with light winds and temps in the 30s around midnight.

New Year’s Day will be a transition day from the dry and sunny pattern to one with some light snow and rain. New Year’s day will see a sunny start followed by increasing clouds ahead of some light rain and snow slated for next Friday.
