Local Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter holds bed-building training on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, many people were giving their time to local charities, including Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
The nonprofit is committed to making sure no children in Central Oregon sleeps on the floor. On Monday, volunteers were briefed on how to deliver and assemble the beds the charity provides.
Bob Mickelson, who started the Deschutes County chapter and is serving as its interim president, says this particular charity appealed to him because it's very hands-on.
"I wanted to do something that was tangible, something that I could put my hands on and I could see have an impact," he told us. "Doing this is exactly that, and when we started it, it dawned on me there's other people just like me in our community that want to give back."
Sleep in Heavenly Peace has a list of families that need these beds right now.
They're looking for drivers and delivery people. If you're interested in volunteering, you can visit their website.
