OSP K-9 team seizes meth and cocaine during I-5 traffic stop in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Oregon State Police say a routine traffic stop on Interstate 5 led to a major drug seizure in Marion County.

On Friday afternoon, January 23, a trooper stopped a northbound vehicle near the Ankeny Hill exit for a traffic violation. Investigators say the trooper noticed inconsistencies regarding the vehicle’s ownership and suspected possible criminal activity. A drug-detection K-9 was called to the scene and alerted to the vehicle.

During a search, troopers found about 26 pounds of methamphetamine and 18 pounds of cocaine inside a duffel bag. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was arrested and turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration due to the large quantity of drugs seized.

The traffic stop was part of OSP’s Domestic Highway Enforcement Initiative, supported by the Oregon-Idaho High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program.

OSP says any further questions should be directed to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Portland.
