BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Search & Rescue teams fanned out from Edison Sno-Park over the weekend, looking for six friends reported overdue on a hike - but it was all a training mission, a key step to be better prepared for the real thing, when it comes.

The Search and Rescue Foundation said in a Facebook post Monday that the scenario involved six friends who set out on a day hike to a nearby shelter and later were reported overdue.

Several teams were deployed into the field, including K-9, tracking, ground search, ATV and Argo (tracked vehicle).

"We appreciate AirLink Critical Care Transport continued collaboration and the ongoing training opportunities they provide," the organization said.

They added: Trainings like this help us maintain and sharpen the skills needed for a successful mission. We stay ready so others may live!"
