Naked man breaks into Bend business, faces multiple charges
(Update: adding information on Findley's extensive criminal record, including Encouraging Child Sex Abuse and failing to register as a Sex Offender).
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — A 43-year-old man was arrested Saturday night after police say he broke into a business and smeared feces in two areas of the building.
KTVZ News Claire Elmer will be live at the business at 4PM on Fox, and 5PM on NBC.
Jajay Allen Findley was identified as the suspect and was taken into custody. Officers responded to the location after a caller reported a naked man had forced his way into the building around 9:27 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Findley inside the building. Although the initial report described the suspect as naked, police noted that he was clothed when they took him into custody. Officers then cleared the facility to ensure no other individuals were present.
Findley was later transported to the Deschutes County Jail on several charges, including burglary and drug possession.
During a search of the property, police discovered feces smeared in two separate areas of the building. This discovery resulted in a third-degree criminal mischief charge for the damage to the business's interior.
Findley faces five separate charges. These include second-degree burglary, third-degree theft, third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree escape, and possession of a controlled substance. Police identified the controlled substance as meth.
Criminal History Includes Sex Crime Convictions
Court records and previous KTVZ News reporting show Findley has a lengthy criminal history dating back more than two decades, including a mix of misdemeanors and felony offenses. While earlier cases involved assault, harassment, theft, and repeated driving-related violations, the most serious charges came in 2019 in Deschutes County.
In that case, Findley was charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine along with 20 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the first and second degrees. Those are felony-level offenses involving explicit material tied to minors.
Findley was sentenced to 35 months in state prison and 36 months of post-prison supervision for the crimes.
Those convictions required Findley to register as a sex offender in Oregon. However, records show he has repeatedly failed to comply with those requirements. Since 2023, Findley has been charged multiple times for failing to report as a sex offender, including both misdemeanor and felony cases in Deschutes and Marion counties.
The latest allegations remain under investigation.
