NBA approves sale of Trail Blazers to group led by Tom Dundon

By Ryne Buchanan

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The NBA Board of Governors approved the sale of the Portland Trail Blazers to a group led by Tom Dundon on Monday.

According to the league, the sale is expected to close later this week. Official terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Reports that Dundon intended to purchase the team first surfaced in August 2025. At the time, ESPN reported that the purchase price was just over $4 billion.

The Blazers officially announced that they were up for sale in May 2025.

Paul Allen purchased the team from Larry Weinberg, one of the franchise’s founders, in 1988 for $70 million.

Allen died in 2018, and in his will, directed the sale of both the Blazers and Seattle Seahawks, with the proceeds going towards his philanthropic efforts.

His sister, Jody, has had a controlling interest over both franchises since his passing, as the executor and trustee of his estate.
