Speeding driver caught at 104 mph near Prineville, police stress safety

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ— The Prineville Police Department posted on Facebook, showing a traffic stop where a driver was recorded traveling 104 mph on a highway stretch between Prineville and Redmond. The speed limit on that section of road is 55 mph.

The department's statement highlighted the dangers of exceeding the speed limit, noting that passing lanes on the west side of the roundabout heading to and from Redmond are intended to facilitate traffic flow. The police stressed that these lanes are not for drivers to double the posted speed limit.

The photograph accompanying the social media post was taken by a passenger in the police vehicle. This individual, identified as another staff member, was present while the officer was conducting traffic enforcement.

The Prineville Police Department used the incident to remind the public that passing lanes serve to safely navigate around slower vehicles. The department urged all motorists to prioritize safety while traveling on that specific highway stretch.
