Thursday Sports Report: Bend athletes shine in Documentary; Two Ducks taken in 1st Round; Blazers eye series lead

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ)-- A new adventure documentary made its debut Thursday night at the Tower Theatre, drawing a strong local crowd eager to celebrate a story years in the making.

“Adapted,” a film seven years in production, follows three Bend athletes living with spinal cord injuries as they push their limits through ambitious outdoor expeditions. The documentary highlights the journeys of Anna Soens, Josh Hancock, and Danielle Doelling, capturing their determination and resilience across a series of physically demanding challenges.

From summiting Mount Baker to rafting the Salmon River and hand-cycling Utah’s White Rim Trail, the trio showcases what’s possible with perseverance and support. All three athletes began their journeys with Oregon Adaptive Sports, a nonprofit dedicated to providing outdoor recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The film will continue its run with additional screenings in Portland on April 30 and in Washington, D.C. on May 16.

Ducks Represent in First Round of NFL Draft

It was also a big night for the Oregon Ducks football in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Tight end Kenyon Sadiq was selected 16th overall by the New York Jets after a standout Junior season in Eugene. Sadiq totaled 560 receiving yards on 51 catches and scored 8 touchdowns in his final year with the Ducks.

Later in the round, safety Dillon Thieneman was picked 25th overall by the Chicago Bears. Thieneman made an immediate impact during his lone season at Oregon, recording 96 total tackles and two interceptions.

Ducks Top Beavers in Rivalry Matchup

On the diamond, the Oregon Ducks baseball defeated the Oregon State Beavers baseball 7-3 on the road, evening the season series at one game apiece.

The Ducks have now won seven of the last eight matchups against their in-state rivals. Oregon currently sits ranked No. 19 nationally, while Oregon State holds the No. 6 spot.

Oregon Lightning Set for Home Opener

The Oregon Lightning are preparing for their home opener this Saturday at the First Interstate Bank Center, where they will host the Albany Firebirds.

The game marks the team’s second contest of the season and the first chance for Central Oregon fans to see the Lightning on their home turf. Fans unable to attend can stream the game live on KTVZ+.

Following the opener, the Lightning will head out on the road for two games before returning home May 16 to face the Washington Wolfpack.

Trail Blazers Even Series with Spurs

In the NBA Playoffs, the Portland Trail Blazers are tied 1-1 with the San Antonio Spurs in their first-round series.

The best-of-seven matchup now shifts to Portland for Games 3 and 4. The Blazers host Game 3 Friday night at 7:30 p.m., followed by Game 4 on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

This marks Portland’s first playoff appearance since 2021, as the team looks to build momentum on its home floor.
