Redmond Man Dies Following Fatal Crash on Highway 26 in Clackamas County

A two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 in Clackamas County, Ore., on April 30 at 7:29 p.m. resulted in one fatality and one serious injury. Christopher James Hamre, 42, of Redmond, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Oregon State Police responded to the crash near milepost 28.

The preliminary investigation indicated a gold Toyota Tacoma, operated by Wyatt Branchley Beers, 18, of Whitefish, Mont., was traveling eastbound near Sandy. Beers reportedly fell asleep and crossed into the westbound lane.

His vehicle collided with a westbound blue Subaru Outback, operated by Sally Caitlin West, 45, of Redmond. West, the Subaru driver, was transported by Life Flight to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Beers, the operator of the Toyota, was not injured in the collision. He remained on-scene and cooperated with the subsequent investigation into the crash.

The highway was impacted for approximately 3 hours while the on-scene investigation was conducted.

Oregon State Police was assisted by several agencies, including Clackamas Fire and Rescue, Life Flight, AMR, the Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
