Pay it Forward: Crook County Search & Rescue

CROOK COUNTY, Ore. (KTVZ) Crook County Search and Rescue recently received a $500 donation through the "Pay It Forward" program. The funds will support their "Project Lifesaver," which provides tracking bracelets to individuals with memory issues.

The "Pay It Forward" program, sponsored by Mid Oregon Credit Union, KTVZ News and Dutch Bros., seeks out groups and individuals who enhance Central Oregon. The program selected Crook County Search and Rescue for its efforts in assisting those lost and its new "Project Lifesaver" initiative.

"Project Lifesaver" aims to save individuals with memory issues by equipping them with tracing bracelets. The program is not inexpensive and requires trained personnel.

Tom Mountz, with Crook County Search and Rescue, explained the ongoing commitment of the program. "We have to change batteries and we visit with them on a regular basis. And should they not show up at the bus stop or, don't make it home. We are called and we come help find those people."

Crook County Search and Rescue operates entirely with volunteers. Last year, these volunteers donated more than 7,000 hours to the county.

The recent $500 donation will be used to help cover the costs associated with training and maintaining "Project Lifesaver."

The $500 donation will go toward supporting the training and operational needs of the "Project Lifesaver" program.
