25-year-old man dies after fall at Barnes Butte in Prineville

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) — A 25-year-old man died Saturday afternoon after falling from a rock formation at Barnes Butte Recreation Area, according to the Prineville Police Department.

Officers responded around 2:49 p.m. on Saturday, to reports of a person who had fallen. When first responders arrived, they found the man with critical injuries. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the man’s identity, citing respect for his family.

The area remains an active investigation scene, and officials are asking the public to avoid Barnes Butte while crews continue their work.

Prineville police extended condolences to the victim’s family and thanked the Crook County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the response.
