Run, play, rescue: Heroes on the Run returns with 7th annual Bend event benefiting Street Dog Hero

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The 7th Annual Heroes on the Run event, presented by Subaru of Bend, will take place on Sunday, June 14, in Bend's Old Mill District. This event combines a professionally timed run with family-friendly activities to raise funds for Street Dog Hero's animal rescue and welfare missions.

The day-long event, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature professionally timed 5K and 10K courses. This year, Heroes on the Run is partnering with the Heroes & Hounds celebration and the Hungry Hound Doggolympics to offer a full day of dog-friendly activities and entertainment.

The Heroes & Hounds celebration will include a live frisbee show by JD Platt & The K9 Kings. Dogs can also compete in the Doggolympics, which features an obstacle course, a high jump, a 50-yard sprint and a best trick contest. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome to participate in or attend the festivities.

Additional event features include adoptable dogs on-site, local vendors and various food and beverage options. Children can visit the Kids Zone, offering an inflatable slide and face painting.

The 5K and 10K race courses both have minimal elevation gain. The 5K course is stroller-friendly, while the 10K offers a more natural trail experience. All registered runners will receive a custom finisher medal and a complimentary beverage, available to those ages 21 and older. Race shirts and dog bandanas are available during registration. A Kids Mini Run is also offered, which provides participants with a Street Dog Hero cape, mask and medal.

Awards will be given to the top three men's and women's finishers in both adult and youth categories. Prizes include gift cards and local experiences.

Every registration for Heroes on the Run directly supports Street Dog Hero. The organization's work includes rescue missions, lifesaving medical care and spay/neuter clinics both in the local area and internationally.
