Deschutes Co. Deputies Rescue Three Dogs from Locked Vehicle, Animal Neglect Charges Pending

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is reminding pet owners not to leave their animals in locked vehicles, especially as warmer weather impacts Central Oregon.

In a social media post on Saturday, the office shared two photos of deputies retrieving three dogs from a locked vehicle at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds.

When temperatures in are the 80s, internal temperatures in vehicles can reach up to 100 degrees.

A spokesperson for the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office tells KTVZ News the owner could face Animal Neglect Charges in the 2nd Degree, which is a Class B Misdemeanor. According to the sheriff's office, that is punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a $2,500 fine.
