FIFA World Cup: USA falls in Round of 16; Bend FC hosts watch party

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ)-- The United States' World Cup run came to an end Tuesday night with a 4-1 loss to Belgium in the Round of 16. In Bend, Bend FC hosted a watch party at Ballers and Brew for the game.

Despite receiving a boost before the match with leading striker Folarin Balogun returning to the lineup, the U.S. struggled to keep pace with Belgium. The Americans fell behind in the ninth minute, marking the first time they had conceded the opening goal during the tournament.

The U.S. answered in the 31st minute when Malik Tillman scored off a free kick that deflected off a Belgian defender to even the match at 1-1. However, Belgium regained the lead just 61 seconds later with a header, taking a 2-1 advantage into halftime.

Belgium extended its lead early in the second half after a miscue involving U.S. goalkeeper Matt Freese led to an easy finish, making it 3-1. Belgium added another goal later in the match to seal the 4-1 victory.

With the win, Belgium advances to the World Cup quarterfinals to face Spain, while the United States sees its tournament come to an end.

It wasn't the game that the fans at the watch party wanted, but the community came together and had a blast.
