Bend Robbery Suspect, Russell Boggess, Pleads Guilty to Cannabis Store Heist

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Russell Ian Boggess, 43, of Bend, pleaded guilty today tied to a robbery at a Bend cannabis store in 2024.

According to court documents, during the robbery, Boggess used a handgun and attempted to fire it twice, but the weapon jammed. He struck a dispensary employee in the head with the firearm and ran from the store. Witnesses outside the dispensary were able to detain Boggess and secure the firearm before law enforcement arrived.

Boggess faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release for interference with commerce by robbery. For using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison. This sentence will be served consecutively to any other sentence, along with a $250,000 fine and five years of supervised release.

Boggess is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 7, 2026.
