Central Oregon Community to Rally Against ICE Arrests

MGN Online

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A demonstration is planned for Saturday, July 11th at Bend's Peace Corner to protest the recent actions of Immigration and Custom Enforcement Agents.

The gathering is scheduled from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

"The gathering comes in response to the ICE arrests of two Central Oregon residents on July 8 and the July 7 killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by an ICE officer in Houston," organizers say.

KTVZ News has not been able to verify that two members of the Central Oregon community were arrested by ICE agents on July 8th.

We have reached out to local law enforcement for comment concerning these allegations.

Both the Bend Police Department and Deschutes County Sheriff's Office did not respond to a call for service at the location in question on Wednesday.

KTVZ News has reached out to Immigration and Customs Enforcement concerning this incident and we are waiting for a response.

Organizers will be accepting nonperishable food donations for the group's ongoing food drive. Separately, donations will be accepted to support We Black Radio's effort to bring singer, songwriter and activist Malynda Hale to Central Oregon.
