Powder House opens Base Camp, transforming west-side property into food truck pavilion and taphouse

BEND, Ore. — A longtime Bend outdoor retailer has expanded beyond skis and snowboards, transforming its former back lot into a new gathering place for food, drinks and community.

After nearly 25 years serving Central Oregon’s outdoor community, the family behind Powder House has opened Base Camp, a two-story taphouse and food truck pavilion at 311 SW Century Drive.

Food trucks line the outdor pavilion at Base Camp, Powder House's new taphouse and food truck destination on Bend's west side.

The expansion marks the latest chapter for the longtime family-owned business. The roughly 7,000-square-foot project features reclaimed barn wood accents, 40-foot ceilings, a rooftop garden built atop repurposed shipping containers and an outdoor courtyard.

Inside, guests will find a 50-foot belly bar serving 36 taps of beer, cider, wine and spirits. An 18-foot projection screen can also be divided into four displays, allowing guests to stream game audio directly to their personal earbuds while watching multiple events.

Outside, the heated courtyard is home to 10 food trucks offering a variety of cuisines. Several vendors are already serving customers, while others are expected to open in the coming days.

Among the first vendors to open is P53 Fresh, owned by Bend residents Lisa and Dan Brown. The food truck serves whole-food, plant-based meals centered on minimally processed ingredients.

Dan Brown demonstrates P53 Fresh!'s digital ordering kiosk during Thursday's soft opening at Base Camp, where the food truck is among the first vendors to begin serving customers.

Brown said the variety of vendors is what sets Base Camp apart.

“This is probably the biggest, coolest food cart pod around,” Brown said during Thursday’s soft opening. “The food carts are all different, and they’re delicious.”

Visitors explored the courtyard during Thursday’s soft opening, sampling food and getting an early look at Base Camp as crews completed the final touches before the venue officially opens to the public Saturday.
