Sisters Athletic Club offers free services to Akawa Butte Fire evacuees and firefighters

SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Sisters Athletic Club opened its facilities today to offer free showers and Wi-Fi access to evacuees and firefighters displaced by the Akawa Butte Fire. The blaze continues to cause evacuations across Deschutes and Jefferson Counties.

The club's services are available to all evacuees, regardless of membership status and will continue for the duration of the emergency. Hundreds of residents from areas north and northwest of Sisters are currently under Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders.

Tate Metcalf, a representative of Sisters Athletic Club, commented on the situation.

“Our community is going through another challenging time. I am happy to offer this support to our displaced neighbors and firefighters,” Metcalf said. Evacuees can utilize the shower facilities and connect to the club's Wi-Fi network during regular club hours without requiring a membership or incurring any fees. Metcalf emphasized the club's commitment, stating, “Our doors are open for as long as this fire keeps people out of theirs.”

He also described the gesture as modest, adding, “A shower, a free cup of coffee and a means to charge a phone is a small gesture in the scope of things.”

Sisters Athletic Club will maintain its offer of free showers and Wi-Fi access for as long as the Akawa Butte Fire emergency persists and keeps people out of their homes.
