LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAY: RED FLAG WARNING AND WILDFIRE ACTIVITY

The Local Alert Weather Team has issued a Local Alert Weather Day for today, Saturday August 1st.

Most of Central Oregon will be under a Red Flag Warning for high fire danger. The National Weather Service has placed a "PDS" tag on this Red Flag Warning. PDS stands for Particularly Dangerous Situation, due to the several wildfires that are already burning. The dry fuel and dry air in addition to the already burning situation, Oregon is a tinder box. If a new fire starts, will spread quickly, and the fires that are already burning will expand rapidly.

Winds will be generally from the west or northwest at 15 to 25 mph and may gust near 35 mph at times. The humidity levels will be low (very dry air) and the fuels are dry as we are in the extreme drought category.  Highs today will be in the middle 80s, not as hot as yesterday, but still warm enough.

Temperatures Friday were in the middle 90s, keeping the fuel very dry and easy to burn.

If you live near one of the many fires that are still active, be alert for evacuations to be issued quickly. Stay Alert.

Sunday will be quiet and cooler with highs in the upper 70s for the most part. Don't get too used to the cooler pattern, the mercury gets back above 90 by the middle of next week.
