Police arrest man in connection with deadly March burglary on NW Braid Drive in Bend

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend Police detectives arrested a second suspect Tuesday in connection with a March burglary and death investigation on NW Braid Drive. Jacob Charles Teeter, 37, was arrested in Prineville on suspicion of first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence and criminal conspiracy.

The arrest stems from a March 12, 2026, incident where a resident confronted an intruder inside their home. One suspect, 36-year-old Zachary Dale Zamzow Douglas, died shortly after the confrontation from injuries sustained in a fall from a balcony.

Bend Police responded to the 3500 block of NW Braid Drive at 11:45 p.m. after a resident reported an unknown person attempted to break into the home. The resident confronted the intruder, resulting in a physical struggle before the intruder ran away on foot.

Officers searched the surrounding area and found Douglas lying on a nearby golf course with life-threatening injuries. While emergency medical care was provided, Douglas did not survive. Detectives later identified him as the suspect who fell from the home's balcony during the struggle with the resident.

The resident sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the fight. Bend Fire and Rescue transported the person to St. Charles Bend, where they were treated and released. Police confirmed that no firearms were involved in the March incident.

Following the arrest of Teeter on Tuesday, detectives executed a search warrant at his home in the 60900 block of Targee Drive. Teeter was subsequently lodged at the Deschutes County Jail.
