Redmond City Council to consider proposed year-round fireworks ban Tuesday

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Redmond City Council is set to hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposed ordinance that would prohibit the possession, sale and use of fireworks within city limits.

Ordinance No. 2026-11 would amend Redmond City Code Section 5.305. Currently, legal fireworks are allowed in Redmond only on July 4; the proposed change would prohibit private fireworks year-round.

The public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Redmond City Hall, where public comment will be accepted.

The proposal follows a Fourth of July weekend that included a fast-moving vegetation fire in northwest Redmond and another fire at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds.

KTVZ will speak with city officials about the proposed ordinance and the factors councilors and city staff will consider ahead of Tuesday’s meeting.
