Plenty of sunshine and warmer as summer makes a brief return visit

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Sunny and dry pattern takes over the region as we warm into the 80s. High pressure ridge centered over the desert southwest will continue to expand west and north, resulting in warmer than normal conditions Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week with highs reaching the upper 80s and possibly the low 90s in some pockets. The sunny skies and dry weather will make it feel much more like mid-July than early September.  The normal high for early September is around the upper 70s, not the upper 80s.

Thursday will be the last day in the 80s this week as the high begins to break down. We are still expecting mostly sunny skies as the short-lived summer fling comes to an end Friday.

The shift from summer back to fall will begin on Friday as highs will be in the low to middle 70s. This occurs as the high drops out of the area and opens the door for an area of low pressure to arrive from the Gulf of Alaska. This will not only bring in much cooler air, but also some rain. Friday will be the “setup day” ahead of another rainy Saturday. 

Saturday the highs will be in the middle 60s as the rain will take over before sunrise.  The rain will be mainly steady and beneficial rain, similar to last weekend, but should only last one day verses the last event that started on Friday and ended early Sunday.    

As a result of the one and done nature of the rain event Saturday, Sunday provides the same cooler air but lacks the moisture to give us any precipitation. Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies Sunday as the cooler air remains. Highs on both Saturday and Sunday will only reach the middle 60s.

Monday will also be another cooler than normal day with highs in the low 70s. Slightly warmer Tuesday, but still about 5 degrees below our normal highs.
