Rain returns Thursday then dry and warm over the weekend

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Gray and dreary start to the day with some clearing late. The overall pattern will be dependent on the movement of an area of low pressure south of Oregon today.

This low will stay to the south today and then begin to move northeast across eastern Oregon Thursday. The result will be a rainy day Thursday with the showers lingering into the night.

The high temperatures will be below normal as the low has a deep pool of cool air surrounding it. Highs will top out in the low 60s today and only reach the middle 60s Thursday. The lack of sunshine and rain will both contribute to the highs being about 10-degrees below normal for mid-September.

There is a chance for some lightning over the next 36 hours, but mainly that chance is well east in eastern Oregon. There may be an isolated crack of thunder at times Thursday, but mainly we should be dealing with periods of light rain.

Friday starts the drying process as the low lumbers off toward Idaho and Montana. There is still a slight chance for a lingering shower early Friday, but mostly east once again. The air temperature readings will be back to normal as highs reach the middle 70s Friday afternoon under partly cloudy skies.

Saturday kicks off the last weekend of summer 2026 with plenty of sunshine and warmth. The high on Saturday is likely to be near 80 so get out and enjoy what Central Oregon has to offer.

Sunday will be another “summer-like” day as we top out in the low to middle 80s. Sunny skies and light winds will define the day as we get another taste of warmth.

Monday will keep the string of 80-degree days going as we hit the low 80s for the third day in a row. Clouds move in a bit on Monday, but we are still expecting partly to mostly sunny skies.

Fall begins on Tuesday as the direct rays of the sun cross the equator at 5:05 pm pacific time. This is known as the Autumnal Equinox and marks the day when we have equal parts daylight and darkness. After Tuesday there will be longer nights and shorter daylight hours.

Tuesday also sees a slightly cooler pattern arrive with highs in the upper 70s. Sky conditions will be partly cloudy. This will repeat on Wednesday, but just a couple degrees cooler in the middle 70s.
