Deschutes County Board to hear Sisters Urban Growth Boundary expansion proposal

Bend, Ore. (KTVZ) --- The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Thursday, Oct. 22, to consider a proposed expansion of the Sisters Urban Growth Boundary.

The proposal would add nearly 319 acres of land on the northeast side of the city's existing boundary.

City officials in Sisters developed the expansion proposal following a series of informational meetings and recommendations from a citizen advisory committee. The proposed boundary extension aims to address local demand for housing, jobs, parks and open space.

Under an agreement between the City of Sisters and Deschutes County, both governing bodies must approve changes to the urban growth boundary before any adjustments take effect. The Board of Commissioners will review the proposal and collect public comments during the meeting before taking action.

The hearing will take place at Sisters City Hall, located at 520 E. Cascade Ave. Community members may offer feedback in person or participate virtually, with meeting agendas and login instructions provided through the county website.

If commissioners approve the expansion, Deschutes County will update its Comprehensive Plan to incorporate the 319 acres into the Sisters Urban Growth Boundary. The amendment would prepare the designated parcels for potential future annexation into the city limits.
