MGN Online

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A 40-year-old Bend resident died Thursday night after crashing an electric scooter in a closed construction zone in Bend.

Bend Police identified the deceased man as Tommy Robert Banks. Officers responded to the area of NE Division Street near Third Street at approximately 10:47 p.m. after a passerby saw a man lying in the roadway and requested a welfare check.

When officers arrived, they located Banks inside the construction area, which was closed to traffic for North Unit Irrigation District work. Police determined Banks was dead at the scene.

Investigators found that Banks was riding the electric scooter northbound through the closed section of NE Division Street when he struck a large rebar grid in the roadway, causing the crash. Banks was not wearing a helmet at the time.
