Owners find Riley had returned Saturday morning

(Update: Dog returned; comments from owner, sheriff's office)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A dog who apparently was stolen Friday morning in Deschutes River Woods was found back home by his owners Saturday morning, Deschutes County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies had turned to the public for help in finding Riley, a 3-year-old border collie, who a witness said was taken by a man in a pickup at a home near the intersection of Baker Road and Sioux Lane on the morning of Friday, March 6.

The driver, described as a tall white male wearing a baseball cap, was seen getting out of a white Ford pickup, putting Riley in it, then driving east on Baker Road between 8:30 and 9 a.m., according to a public alert the sheriff's office posted on Facebook.

"The owners found him this morning," just after 6 a.m., Sgt. Grant Johnstone told NewsChannel 21 on Saturday.

Dog owner Sandra Stanley said she was out shoveling snow around 5:30-6 a.m. when a pickup truck stopped, left and Riley was back, "dropped off just as he was taken."

"He isn't feeling well, but he is home!" she posted. "Thank you all for the post and keeping your eyes open."

Riley's owners now plan to get him microchipped, the sergeant added.
