La Pine, Prineville health centers receive $1.5 million for coronavirus response
WASHINGTON (KTVZ) -- Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., last week applauded the Department of Health and Human Services for awarding over $23 million to Community Health Centers in Oregon, including 11 centers in the Second District, to help with coronavirus response efforts.
The funding comes as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which Walden helped champion into law. The funding builds on the nearly $7.8 million the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded to the state in March, as well as the $1.9 million HHS awarded to Oregon Community Health Centers two weeks ago.
“I’ve never seen an administration move faster to get economic relief out to our communities,” Walden said. “Just two weeks ago, the president signed the CARES Act, and already we are seeing the funding flow to communities in Oregon and across our nation. This funding will further help Oregon’s CHCs, which play a vital role in our efforts to combat the coronavirus and serve over 240,000 Oregonians in the Second District. I will continue my efforts to ensure our state and nation receive the support they need as we work to combat this deadly virus.”
Sens. Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden also welcomed news of the latest grants.
“We have a responsibility to make sure that the Oregonians working on the front lines of this public health crisis have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Merkley. “These grants will help us make sure that our health facilities and their dedicated employees have what they need to stay safe and take care of our communities during this challenging time—and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure those urgent resources keep coming.”
“Oregon’s health care heroes working 24-7 to protect communities during the coronavirus pandemic deserve support for their life-and-death work,” Wyden said. “Much more needs to be done, but I am gratified these grants will help medical providers to keep Oregonians safe in every nook and cranny throughout our state.”
