House check turned up pair, who police say ran out the back but were caught

SUNRIVER, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A California man and a Hawaii woman who had a protective order against him were arrested Monday on charges of burglarizing a Sunriver home, police said.

Sunriver police responded shortly before 1 p.m. to a report of a burglary in progress at a home on Whistling Swan Lane, Police Chief Cory Darling said Tuesday.

The burglary report was called in by a construction company owner who was conducting a home check for the owner while they were away, Darling said.

He said he contacted a man who was not supposed to be in the home, later identified as David Manzenko, 28, of Sacramento, Darling said.

The person making the home check said Manzenko closed and locked the front door, and he then saw him and a woman later identified as Deanna Clair Young, 30, of Hawaii, running from the rear of the home into a wooded area to the west of Whistling Swan Lane.

Officers were unable to find the pair at that time, Darling said, but around 2:15 p.m., two suspicious people matching their description were reported sitting on a log in the common area near the north end of Golden Eagle, Darling said.

Officers contacted the pair, who they said were in possession of property taken from the home on Whistling Swan Lane.

The police chief noted that a temporary protective order had been issued by courts in Washington state to protect Young from Manzenko.

Manzenko and Young were taken to the Deschutes County Jail in Bend and charged with first-degree burglary. Manzenko, also charged with contempt of court for violating the protective order, was held on $45,000 bail and Young on $25,000 bail.

Court records showed Manzenko and Young were indicted on charges of first-degree burglary and second-degree theft.

Young in early August pleaded guilty to a third-dgree theft charge and the burglary charge was dismissed. She was sentenced to two days in jail and 112 hours of community service.
