DCSO: La Pine man pepper-sprayed friend, threw his prosthetic leg in woods, threatened to light him on fire

He's then accused of putting the man in his trunk, dumping him in road by relative's house

La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A La Pine man has been arrested on charges he assaulted a friend with punches and pepper spray, removed his prosthetic leg and threw it into the woods, doused him in gasoline and threatened to light him on fire.

Troy Kenneth Dahl, 34, had been in an ongoing argument with the victim, an acquaintance, before the incident, Deschutes County sheriff's Sgt. Kent Vander Kamp said Thursday.

County 911 dispatchers received a call around 8 p.m. Tuesday about an assault that had just occurred in a remote, forested area near Reed Road and Darlene Way in La Pine, Vander Kamp said.

Deputies learned the two men had been in an ongoing argument and continued to argue while driving in Dahl's Chevy Tahoe.

Vander Kamp said Dahl drove the SUV into a nearby wooded area, where he began assaulting the alleged victim with pepper spray and punches before removing the man's prosthetic leg and throwing it into the nearby woods.

Dahl then allegedly poured gas on the victim and threatened to light him on fire using a cigarette lighter, but did not do so, the sergeant said.

Dahl then put the victim and his prosthesis in the trunk of his SUV and drove to the house of a relative of the victim, where he dumped the man in the middle of Cassidy Drive, Vander Kamp said. He then rang the home's doorbell and fled.

The relative called 911 after finding the man in the road. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and sought medical treatment on his own.

Deputies searched the area and found Dahl's SUV. They obtained a search warrant and seized the vehicle to process evidence.

On Wednesday, Dahl surrendered to deputies and was arrested. He was lodged in the county jail on charges of second-degree assault, menacing, driving with a suspended license, coercion and unlawful use of a stun gun and pepper spray, Vander Kamp said.

Dahl was booked into the jail around 2 p.m. and released about five hours later after posting 10 percent of his $85,000 bail, officials said.

In July 2018, Dahl, wanted on a felony parole board warrant, was arrested in Newport after a standoff at a motor home. A Taser was used to take him into custody, news reports said.

In 2011, court records show he was arrested on charges of breaking into a convenience store on Spring River Road, trying to steal an ATM and stealing several cartons of cigarettes. A Day later, authorities said he entered a home wearing a ski mask and fired a shot into the ceiling before leaving with money, a laptop and a car.

The next year, he pleaded guilty to criminal mischief, second-degree burglary, coercion and felon in possession of a firearm and received a 13-month prison sentence.
