Bend family-owned business has big plans for Pilot Butte’s 4th of July fireworks show

Subaru of Bend and the Bend New Car Dealership Association have chosen a family-owned company, Sure Shot Blasting and Fireworks, to present the Fourth of July fireworks show on top of Pilot Butte.

NewsChannel 21 met with Gary Mattison, a pyrotechnician and the owner of Sure Shot Blasting and Fireworks, on Tuesday. He said the Fourth of July show will include more than 1,000 shells lined up around the summit pathway.

Mattison said he and his two sons, both in their 20s, have put on fireworks shows in recent years for Summit High School, the Bend Elks and Sunriver Resort.But this will be their first time setting up and launching fireworks from atop Pilot Butte.
