Removed from wreckage, flown to hospital

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- An injured driver was flown to the hospital Saturday after a pickup truck left the O'Neil Highway near Redmond and crashed into a tree, authorities said.

Redmond and Crook County firefighters responded to the crash reported shortly before 1:30 p.m. at milepost 6, along with Oregon State Police and Crook County sheriff's deputies.

Redmond Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Ron Hawkins said they arrived to find the small pickup with severe damage and a leaking fuel tank.

Firefighter-medics stabilized the pickup, stopped the fuel leak and cut away the wreckage to free the driver, who was flown by a Life Flight helicopter to a nearby hospital, Hawkins said.
