MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Redmond woman was killed and several other people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Highway 97 and Southwest Bear Drive south of Madras, Oregon State Police reported Wednesday.

Troopers and other first-responders were dispatched just after 1:30 p.m. to the crash near milepost 100, OSP Captain Tim Fox said.

A preliminary investigation found that a line of northbound traffic had stopped, waiting for a vehicle turning left onto Bear Drive, Fox said.

A northbound semi-truck driven by a 57-year-old Yuba City, Calif., man struck the back of a stopped Toyota RAV 4 driven by a 36-year-old West Linn woman.

The semi then crossed into the oncoming lane, first striking a southbound BMW driven by a 39-year-old Ridgefield, Wash., woman, and then hitting an oncoming Volvo driven by Nadia Rankov Adams, 52, of Redmond.

Rankov Adams sustained fatal injuries in the crash, Fox said. Several other drivers and passengers were injured and taken to area hospitals.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Jefferson County EMS, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and ODOT.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins said traffic was detoured due to the lengthy closure for an extensive investigation and Oregon State Police crash reconstruction work.

The highway reopened shortly before 11 p.m., according to our ODOT TripCheck page.
