One person killed, two seriously injured in 3-vehicle Hwy. 26 crash NW of Madras

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Vancouver, Washington, man was killed and two other people were seriously injured Tuesday in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 26 northwest of Madras, Oregon State Police reported.

Troopers and other emergency personnel responded around 12:15 p.m. to the reported crash on Highway 26 near milepost 112, about five miles northwest of Madras, OSP Captain Tim Fox said.

A preliminary investigation found that Bonnie McCoy, 71, of Milwaukie, Oregon, was driving a Nissan Pathfinder heading west when she tried to pass a Dodge Ram pickup towing a travel trailer and driven by Deborah Dunne, 65, of North Plains, Fox said.

The SUV collided with an oncoming, eastbound Infiniti driven by Ryan Gile, 26, of Vancouver, Washington.

Gile was taken to St. Charles Madras, where he was pronounced dead, Fox said.

McCoy was taken first flown by air ambulance to St. Charles Madras, then to St. Charles Bend. A passenger in the Pathfinder, Barry Barber, 71, of Milwaukie, Oregon, was flown to the Bend hospital.

Three AirLink and Life Flight air ambulances were called to the scene of the crash, which closed Highway 26 for several hours. A detour was established by mid-afternoon, ODOT reported.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies, Jefferson County Fire and EMS crews and Warm Springs police and ODOT, Fox said.
